Kuraby is bounded by Underwood Road in the north, Millers Road and Logan City in the east, Compton Road in the south, and Persse Road and Bulimba Creek in the west.

Name origin

Kuraby is named from an Aboriginal word meaning "a place of many springs" or "small creek".

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1860s, with land used mainly for timber-getting and farming. Population was minimal until the 1960s when land was subdivided. Rapid growth took place from the early 1990s, with the population increasing six-fold between 1991 and 2006, a result of large numbers of new dwellings being added to the area.

Land use

Kuraby is a recent residential area, with undeveloped areas in the south. Rural land is used for fruit growing and market gardening.
