Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s. Growth took place in the 1880s and 1890s. Significant development occurred during the post-war years, particularly from the 1960s when many apartments were built. The population was relatively stable during the 1990s, and then increased slightly between 2001 and 2006, largely a result of an increase in the number of occupied dwellings.
