Geebung is bounded by Zillmere Road in the north, Bilsen Road and the Shorncliffe railway line in the east, Downfall Creek in the south, and Gympie Road, Murphy Road, Robinson Road West, the North Coast railway line and O'Callaghan Park in the west.

Name origin

Geebung is named after the geebung tree (the Aboriginal word for the fruit of the Persoonia tree).

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1860s, when a brick factory was established. Growth took place from the 1880s, following the construction of a railway line. Expansion continued during the interwar and post-war years. The population declined marginally during the 1990s, and then was relatively stable between 2001 and 2006, a result of little change in dwelling stock.
