Eight Mile Plains is bounded by Bulimba Creek in the north, Bulimba Creek, Miles Platting Road and the Pacific Motorway in the east, Underwood Road, Warrigal Road and Daw Road in the south, and Sirett Street and Bulimba Creek in the west.

Name origin

Eight Mile Plains was named to describe the topography of the area and its distance by bushtrack to Woolloongabba.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1860s, with land used mainly for agricultural purposes. Some growth took place in the interwar period. Significant development took place from the 1970s, with redevelopment in more recent years. Rapid growth took place from the early 1990s, with the population nearly doubling between 1991 and 2006, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.

Eight Mile Plains is a predominantly residential area, with some commercial and industrial land use.
