Location and boundaries

Carindale is bounded by Meadowlands Road and Bulimba Creek in the north, the Gateway Motorway in the east, Cribb Road, Cowell Street, Bulimba Creek and Pine Mountain Road in the south, and Creek Road in the west.

Name origin

Carindale is derived from 'Carina', an original property in the area, which was named after Kate Carina Thorne, daughter of an early landholder.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1850s, with land used mainly for timber-getting and farming. Growth was minimal until significant development took place from 1976. The population increased substantially during the 1990s, with growth continuing at a slower rate between 2001 and 2006, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.

Carindale is a relatively recent residential area, with a substantial commercial area and outlying rural areas.

Major features of the area include Westfield Carindale Shopping Centre, Pacific Golf Club, Bulimba Creek Bicentennial Park, Carindale Recreational Reserve, Belmont Hills Reserve and two schools.
