Location and boundaries

Cannon Hill is bounded by Lytton Road and Creek Road in the north, Wynnum Road and Bulimba Creek in the east, Fursden Road, Wood Avenue, the Minnippi Parklands, Creek Road and Richmond Road in the south, and Lang Street, Rossiter Street, Wynnum Road and Junction Road in the west.

Name origin

Cannon Hill is named after an early property in the area.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1860s, although the area remained largely bushland, with some farming and grazing, until the 1920s. The Saleyards were opened in 1931, and closed in 1991. Significant residential development occurred during the 1940s and 1950s. The population has increased since the mid 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area, particularly from new housing developments on the former saleyards site.
