Name origin

Wooloowin is thought to be named from Aboriginal words meaning "smoke" and "pigeon".

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, although population was minimal until the 1880s. Significant development occurred during the post-war years. The population and dwelling stock have been relatively stable since the early 1990s.
