Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1860s, with land used mainly for farming, particularly fruit growing. Population was minimal until the 1880s, following the opening of the railway line. Rapid growth took place during the 1960s and 1970s. The population has increased marginally since the mid 1990s, largely a result of new dwellings being added to the area.
