Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of the Sunshine District in 2021 compared to the City of Brimbank shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who used English only, and a larger proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 33.5% of the population used English only, and 59.7% used a non-English language, compared with 36.3% and 57.3% respectively for the City of Brimbank.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in the Sunshine District was Vietnamese, with 22.8% of the population, or 10,836 people using this language at home.

The major differences between the languages used at home for the population of the Sunshine District and the City of Brimbank in 2021 were:

  • A larger percentage using Vietnamese at home (22.8% compared to 18.5%)
