Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of the Sydenham District in 2021 compared to Albion shows that there was a larger proportion of people who used English only, and a similar proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 49.9% of the population used English only, and 45.7% used a non-English language, compared with 46.2% and 46.2% respectively for Albion.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in the Sydenham District was Vietnamese, with 5.8% of the population, or 2,682 people using this language at home.

The major differences between the languages used at home for the population of the Sydenham District and Albion in 2021 were:

  • A larger percentage using Macedonian at home (3.6% compared to 0.3%)
  • A larger percentage using Greek at home (3.4% compared to 1.0%)
