Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Hawthorn in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,210 males or 18.7%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (564 males or 8.7%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (564 males or 8.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,338 males in total or 36.2% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, the City of Boroondara employed 17.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 8.4% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 9.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Hawthorn and the City of Boroondara were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in education and training (7.6% compared to 6.5%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (5.4% compared to 4.3%)
