Dominant groups

Analysis of the families with children in Hawthorn in 2021 compared to the City of Boroondara shows that there was a smaller proportion of couples with young children, as well as a smaller proportion of couples with older children.

Overall, 10.9% of total households with children were couple with young children, and 6.3% were couples with older children, compared with 16.0% and 13.1% respectively for the City of Boroondara.

There were a smaller proportion of single parent households with young children and a smaller proportion of single parent households with older children. Overall, the proportion of single parent households with young children was 1.8% compared to 2.6% in the City of Boroondara while the proportion of single parent households with older children was 2.8% compared to 4.9% in the City of Boroondara.
