Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Hawthorn in 2021 compared to the City of Boroondara shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 13.1% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 13.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.1% and 16.9% respectively for the City of Boroondara.

The major differences between the male age structure of Hawthorn and the City of Boroondara were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (12.2% compared to 7.0%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (10.3% compared to 6.0%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 20 to 24 (10.0% compared to 7.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 10 to 14 (5.1% compared to 7.2%)
