Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 18 to 24 years in Blacktown City Council in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 55.2% of people aged 18 to 24 years spoke English only, and 38.2% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 58.6% and 36.0% respectively for Greater Sydney.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 18 to 24 years in Blacktown City Council was Punjabi, with 6.4% of the population, or 2,303 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 18 to 24 years of Blacktown City and Greater Sydney in 2021 were:
