Dominant groups

Analysis of the female service age groups of Ward 3 in 2021 compared to Ward 4 shows that there was a similar proportion of females in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (60+ years).

Overall, 18.5% of the female population was aged between 0 and 17, and 24.6% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 18.4% and 22.5% respectively for Ward 4.

The major differences between the female age structure of Ward 3 and Ward 4 were:

  • A larger percentage of 'Seniors' (10.6% compared to 9.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Young workforce' (15.7% compared to 17.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Parents and homebuilders' (20.4% compared to 21.2%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Ward 3's female population increased by 143 people (0.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.19% per year over the period.

The largest changes in the female age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • Empty nesters and retirees (60 to 69) (+192 females)
  • Older workers and pre-retirees (50 to 59) (+146 females)
  • Primary schoolers (5 to 11) (-123 females)
  • Tertiary education and independence (18 to 24) (-92 females)
