Occupation of employment

There were more male professionals in Ward 2 in 2021 than any other occupation.

Ward 2's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Ward 2's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Ward 2 in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (3,916 males or 28.4%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (2,239 males or 16.3%)
  • Managers (1,941 males or 14.1%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 8,096 males in total or 58.8% of the employed male resident population.

In comparison, Wolli Creek employed 35.5% in Professionals; 13.4% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 14.4% in Managers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Ward 2 and Wolli Creek were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (16.3% compared to 13.4%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (8.0% compared to 5.6%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed as Labourers (9.5% compared to 7.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Professionals (28.4% compared to 35.5%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Ward 2 increased by 3,631 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in Ward 2 were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+1,479 males)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+558 males)
  • Managers (+491 males)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+348 males)
