There were more professionals in Mascot in 2021 than any other occupation.

Mascot's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Mascot's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Mascot in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (3,538 people or 28.8%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (1,672 people or 13.6%)
  • Managers (1,536 people or 12.5%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 6,746 people in total or 54.9% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Sans Souci employed 23.6% in Professionals; 17.1% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 16.7% in Managers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Mascot and Sans Souci were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (28.8% compared to 23.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (8.1% compared to 6.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (12.5% compared to 16.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (13.6% compared to 17.1%)

The number of employed people in Mascot increased by 4,078 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Mascot were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+1,435 persons)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+488 persons)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+455 persons)
  • Managers (+390 persons)
