Five year age groups

In 2021, the largest age group in Ward 2 was 25 to 29 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 30 to 34 year olds, increasing by 2,962 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Ward 2 in 2021 compared to Bexley shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 12.2% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 8.5% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.9% and 19.5% respectively for Bexley.

The major differences between the age structure of Ward 2 and Bexley were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (17.5% compared to 6.1%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (15.9% compared to 6.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 20 to 24 (11.2% compared to 6.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (1.1% compared to 4.1%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Ward 2's population increased by 12,547 people (34.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 6.17% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 30 to 34 (+2,962 persons)
  • 25 to 29 (+2,686 persons)
  • 35 to 39 (+1,772 persons)
  • 20 to 24 (+1,583 persons)
