Dominant groups

Analysis of the service age groups of Hampton in 2021 compared to Hampton East shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) as well as a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (60+ years).

Overall, 22.0% of the population was aged between 0 and 17, and 25.5% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 21.2% and 20.7% respectively for Hampton East.

The major differences between the age structure of Hampton and Hampton East were:

  • A larger percentage of 'Empty nesters and retirees' (12.4% compared to 9.4%)
  • A larger percentage of 'Secondary schoolers' (9.2% compared to 6.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Parents and homebuilders' (19.2% compared to 23.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Young workforce' (7.8% compared to 11.8%)
