Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in City of Bayside in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (6,849 people or 14.9%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (5,247 people or 11.4%)
  • Education and Training (4,545 people or 9.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 16,641 people in total or 36.2% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 9.0% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 12.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 8.6% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the City of Bayside and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (14.9% compared to 9.0%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in financial and insurance services (6.9% compared to 4.5%)
