The size of the City of Bayside's labour force in 2016 was 48,205, of which 17,781 were employed part-time and 27,557 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in the City of Bayside in 2016 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a higher proportion in employment, and a lower proportion unemployed. Overall, 95.4% of the labour force was employed (58.5% of the population aged 15+), and 4.6% unemployed (2.8% of the population aged 15+), compared with 93.2% and 6.8% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
