The size of Highett's labour force in 2011 was 3,341, of which 1,147 were employed part-time and 2,007 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in Highett in 2011 compared to City of Bayside shows that there was a similar proportion in employment, as well as a similar proportion unemployed. Overall, 96.6% of the labour force was employed (62.3% of the population aged 15+), and 3.4% unemployed (2.2% of the population aged 15+), compared with 96.2% and 3.8% respectively for City of Bayside.
