Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the population in Brighton in 2016 compared to City of Bayside shows that there was a smaller proportion of people born overseas, as well as a smaller proportion of people from a non-English speaking background.

Overall, 23.2% of the population was born overseas, and 11.7% were from a non-English speaking background, compared with 25.3% and 13.2% respectively for City of Bayside.

The largest non-English speaking country of birth in Brighton was China, where 2.8% of the population, or 642 people, were born.

There were no major differences between Brighton and City of Bayside in 2016.

Emerging groups

Between 2011 and 2016, the number of people born overseas decreased by 111 or 2.1%, and the number of people from a non-English speaking background decreased by 136 or 4.9%.
