Hampton East is bounded by South Road in the north, the Nepean Highway and the Frankston railway line in the east, Wickham Road in the south, and Bluff Road in the west.

Name origin

Hampton East is named for the area east of Hampton, which was named after Dyas Hampton, an early market gardener in the area.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, although population was minimal until the early 1900s. Growth took place during the interwar period, with more substantial development in the post-war years, aided by public housing construction. The population increased slightly from the mid 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.

Land use

Hampton East is an established residential area, with some commercial land use along the Nepean Highway.
