Please note that the ABS definition of "Rented" in 2021 changed to exclude "Occupied Rent Free", which is now included under "Other tenure type". Please take care when comparing the "Rented" and "Other" categories between 2016 and 2021; most overseas-born communities show some increase in the "Other" category due to the definitional change. This represents a very small proportion of the population (generally 1-2%) and has minimal effect on the overall view of tenure types in overseas-born populations.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the housing tenure of people born overseas in Bathurst Regional Council in 2021 compared to the total population in Bathurst Regional Council shows that there was a larger proportion of people born overseas in households who owned their dwelling; a smaller proportion purchasing their dwelling; and a larger proportion who were renters.
Overall, 30.4% of people born overseas were in households who owned their dwelling; 31.8% were purchasing, and 34.9% were renting, compared with 27.3%, 38.3% and 28.3% respectively for the total population in Bathurst Regional Council.
