Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in The Barossa Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Manufacturing (2,269 people or 18.5%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (1,414 people or 11.5%)
- Retail Trade (1,101 people or 9.0%)
In combination, these three industries employed 4,784 people in total or 39.0% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Greater Adelaide employed 6.8% in Manufacturing; 17.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 9.7% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of The Barossa Council area and Greater Adelaide were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (18.5% compared to 6.8%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (6.5% compared to 1.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (11.5% compared to 17.1%)
