Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by the population of North Ward in 2011 compared to Bankstown City shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 33.4% of the population spoke English only, and 60.9% spoke a non-English language, compared with 39.7% and 54.7% respectively for Bankstown City.

The dominant language spoken at home, other than English, in North Ward was Arabic, with 22.0% of the population, or 10,060 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for the population of North Ward and Bankstown City in 2011 were:
