Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by the population of East Ward in 2011 compared to Bankstown City shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 20.3% of the population spoke English only, and 73.1% spoke a non-English language, compared with 39.7% and 54.7% respectively for Bankstown City.

The dominant language spoken at home, other than English, in East Ward was Arabic, with 35.4% of the population, or 19,384 people speaking this language at home.
