Location and boundaries

Chester Hill is bounded by the water supply pipeline in the north, Hector Street in the east, Doust Street, Newman Street, Winston Avenue, Marks Street, Marks Lane and Bennett Street in the south, and Miller Road, First Walk, Gurney Road, Miowera Road and Woodville Road in the west.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for market gardens and orchards. Significant development did not occur until the 1920s, spurred by the opening of the railway line. Rapid growth took place in the immediate post-war years, aided by public housing construction. The population increased slightly from the mid 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area, particularly medium density housing.

Land use

Chester Hill is an established residential area, with some commercial areas along Waldron Road, and an industrial area in the south-west.
