Dominant groups
Analysis of the share of the population attending educational institutions in Regional TAS in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a similar proportion attending primary school, a lower proportion attending secondary school, and a lower proportion engaged in tertiary level education.
Overall, 8.0% of the population were attending primary school, 5.7% of the population were attending secondary institutions, and 4.7% were learning at a tertiary level, compared with 8.0%, 6.3% and 7.4% respectively for Victoria.
The major differences between the share of the population attending learning institutions in Regional TAS and Victoria were:
- A larger percentage of persons not attending (73.7% compared to 69.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons attending University (2.5% compared to 5.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons attending pre-school (1.1% compared to 2.1%)

From 2016 to 2021, Regional TAS's population increased by 22,465 people (+7.8%). This represents an average annual change of 1.52% per year over the period.
The largest changes in the number of persons attending education institutions in Regional TAS, between 2016 and 2021 were in those who nominated:
- Secondary school (+1,422 persons)
- Pre-school (+1,234 persons)
- Secondary - Government (+1,028 persons)
- TAFE/Vocational (+872 persons)
