Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of people in Australia compared to Victoria shows that there was a higher proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 6.6% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 5.9% for Victoria.

The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Greater Adelaide and Victoria were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 5 to 9 (5.8% compared to 4.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (27.6% compared to 29.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (16.3% compared to 17.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (10.7% compared to 11.7%)

Emerging groups

The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2016 and 2021 in Greater Adelaide were in the age groups:

  • 10 to 19 (+2,465 persons)
  • 85 and over (+2,079 persons)
  • 70 to 74 (+1,902 persons)
  • 75 to 79 (+1,666 persons)
