Dominant groups
Analysis of the need for assistance of people in Australia compared to Victoria shows that there was a higher proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.
Overall, 7.0% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 5.9% for Victoria.
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Regional SA and Victoria were:
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (22.8% compared to 29.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (45.2% compared to 51.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (14.1% compared to 17.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (10.1% compared to 11.7%)
Emerging groups
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2016 and 2021 in Regional SA were in the age groups:
- 70 to 74 (+751 persons)
- 75 to 79 (+748 persons)
- 85 and over (+652 persons)
- 80 to 84 (+645 persons)
