Name origin

Tom Price is named after Thomas Moore Price, who played an important role in the early development of the iron mining industry in the area.

Settlement history

The township of Tom Price was established in the late 1960s by Rio Tinto as a company mining town for the nearby iron ore deposits. The population fluctuated between 1991 and 2006, largely due to changes in mining operations. The population then increased significantly between 2006 and 2011 as mining operations increased.
