Strathalbyn District is bounded by the District Council of Mount Barker area and the Rural City of Murray Bridge in the north, Chaunceys Line Road, Boundary Road North, Boundary Road South and Lake Alexandrina in the east, the Lower Murray (Goolwa) Channel, the Finniss River, Winery Road and a line running east-west joining Winery Road in the south, and Deep Creek Road, a line running through the locality of Tooperang, Ridge Road, the locality of Nangkita, Mount Magnificent Road and Milligan Road in the west. This area excludes the township part of the locality of Strathalbyn, which is located in the north-central section of the area.
