Analysis of the male service age groups of the City of Adelaide in 2021 compared to Greater Adelaide shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) as well as a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (60+ years).
Overall, 6.8% of the male population was aged between 0 and 17, and 18.4% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 21.5% and 22.9% respectively for Greater Adelaide.
The major differences between the male age structure of the City of Adelaide and Greater Adelaide were:
- A larger percentage of 'Tertiary education & independence' (21.3% compared to 9.2%)
- A larger percentage of 'Young workforce' (25.2% compared to 14.2%)
- A smaller percentage of 'Primary schoolers' (2.8% compared to 8.6%)
- A smaller percentage of 'Secondary schoolers' (2.0% compared to 7.2%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, City of Adelaide's male population increased by 1,455 people (12.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.45% per year over the period.
The largest changes in the male age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- Young workforce (25 to 34) (+484 males)
- Parents and homebuilders (35 to 49) (+460 males)
