There were more male professionals in the City of Adelaide in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Adelaide in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (2,549 males or 38.7%)
  • Managers (1,015 males or 15.4%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (730 males or 11.1%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 4,294 males in total or 65.2% of the employed male resident population.

In comparison, Greater Adelaide employed 19.9% in Professionals; 14.3% in Managers; and 20.7% in Technicians and Trades Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Adelaide and Greater Adelaide were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed as Professionals (38.7% compared to 19.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (11.1% compared to 20.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (3.1% compared to 9.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Labourers (7.1% compared to 11.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in City of Adelaide increased by 1,738 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Adelaide were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+674 males)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+224 males)
  • Managers (+176 males)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+174 males)
