Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in City of Adelaide in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,222 females or 20.2%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (821 females or 13.6%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (719 females or 11.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,762 females in total or 45.6% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Greater Adelaide employed 26.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.2% in Accommodation and Food Services; and 6.4% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the City of Adelaide and Greater Adelaide were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (13.6% compared to 7.2%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (11.9% compared to 6.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (20.2% compared to 26.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in retail trade (8.7% compared to 10.7%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in City of Adelaide increased by 1,619 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Adelaide were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+369 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+260 females)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+249 females)
  • Education and Training (+130 females)
