Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Adelaide in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,056 males or 16.0%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (884 males or 13.4%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (685 males or 10.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,625 males in total or 39.8% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Greater Adelaide employed 7.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 6.0% in Accommodation and Food Services; and 7.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Adelaide and Greater Adelaide were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (16.0% compared to 7.8%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (13.4% compared to 6.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (6.2% compared to 14.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (4.7% compared to 9.4%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in City of Adelaide increased by 1,725 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Adelaide were for those employed in:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+393 males)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+263 males)
  • Construction (+170 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+165 males)
