More CAD East residents worked in professional, scientific and technical services than any other industry in 2021.

This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in CAD East in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (268 people or 15.6%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (255 people or 14.9%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (238 people or 13.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 761 people in total or 44.3% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, South Australia employed 6.2% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 6.6% in Accommodation and Food Services; and 16.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of CAD East and South Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (15.6% compared to 6.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (14.9% compared to 6.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (3.6% compared to 8.3%)
