Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of the City of Adelaide in 2021 compared to Greater Adelaide shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 5.9% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 14.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.9% and 17.1% respectively for Greater Adelaide.

The major differences between the male age structure of the City of Adelaide and Greater Adelaide were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 20 to 24 (17.5% compared to 6.8%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (14.7% compared to 7.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 10 to 14 (1.9% compared to 6.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 5 to 9 (2.0% compared to 6.2%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, City of Adelaide's male population increased by 1,460 people (12.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.46% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
