In 2016, 36% of people in City South, came from countries where English was not their first language.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the population in City South in 2016 compared to the City of Adelaide shows that there was a similar proportion of people born overseas, and a similar proportion of people from a non-English speaking background.

Overall, 43.8% of the population was born overseas, and 35.6% were from a non-English speaking background, compared with 44.2% and 36.5% respectively for the City of Adelaide.

The largest non-English speaking country of birth in City South was China, where 15.1% of the population, or 460 people, were born.

The major differences between the countries of birth of the population in City South and the City of Adelaide were:
