Dominant groups
Analysis of the qualifications of the population needing assistance in the City of Sydney in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a higher proportion of people holding formal qualifications (Bachelor or higher degree; Advanced Diploma or Diploma; or Vocational qualifications), and a lower proportion of people with no formal qualifications.
Overall, 45.0% of the population needing assistance aged 15 years or more held educational qualifications, and 47.8% had no qualifications, compared with 31.2% and 61.7% respectively for Greater Sydney.
The major differences between qualifications held by the population needing assistance in the City of Sydney and Greater Sydney were:
- A larger percentage of people with Bachelor or Higher degrees (23.4% compared to 11.4%)
- A larger percentage of people with Advanced Diploma or Diplomas (9.6% compared to 6.6%)
- A smaller percentage of people with No qualifications (47.8% compared to 61.7%)
- A smaller percentage of people with Vocational qualifications (12.0% compared to 13.2%)
Emerging groups
The largest changes in the qualifications of the population needing assistance in the City of Sydney between 2011 and 2021 were in those with:
- Bachelor or Higher degrees (+735 persons)
- No qualifications (+363 persons)
- Vocational qualifications (+268 persons)
- Advanced Diploma or Diplomas (+260 persons)
